Malibu Stacy @ The Ship

Yep, I'm gonna review my own gig. :P

First off, I'll get the negative out the way. As it was our first gig it wasn't hard to tell we've only been together a couple months & haven't rehearsed for a week & a half. We fluffed endings, forgot how a couple started & there were bum notes aplenty. But we made light of it & got the surprisingly large crowd on our side early on.

We opened with LA Gus' No Mercy & went straight into KISS classic Deuce. So far so good. We kind of stumbled through the next few numbers, scrappy but tight if you know what I mean? By the time we got to the 'hits' part of the set we had people singing along, even unrehearsedly (is that a word?) stopping so the crowd could sing back at us. We weren't expecting that so take it a a success.

As ever, it was over before you know it. There were cries for more & we almost repeated a couple of songs but thought it best to leave on a high. We found out too late though that the band after us finished early & the landlord wanted us to go back on & do more. That was a good sign I thought.

A quick mention for Junior. It was his first ever gig & he was uber nervous but played great & looked like he was loving it. It was a joy looking over at him playing. I'm proud of the little sod. :)

All in all, a great night. If we can win a crowd over despite the many fk ups then I'm confident that we'll get better with each passing gig.

Here's to many more.

Setlist:

No Mercy
Deuce
Battleship Chains
Errol Flynn (Dogs D'Amour)

Bathroom Wall (Faster Pussycat)

Sounds good mate, well done indeed. That is a fine set list, not just playing safe but putting some thought into it. Malibu Stacy for The Vic I say !!!!!!

 Cheers. We chucked a couple of obvious ones in there (Paranoid/Hard To Handle) because 99% of punters won't know most of the stuff in the middle of the set so grab them back in for the last few numbers. It seemed to work.

As for The Vic, if Big J ever wants a covers band we'd do it in a shot. :)

Great gig matey, really enjoyed it.

The engine Room was a good little venue as well.

Junior did really well and shouldn't beat himself up over anything, he sounded fine and did better than I could, confidence will grow after each gig.

You were properly rocking it mate, I love your determined guitar paying face, class. Great playing though buddy.

Congrats to you lot and like you say the more you do the better you'll sound.

Thanks all. I just watched the video of it & although we fkd up a few times it sounded better than I thought it did while playing.

Determined guitar playing face? That was confusion over what the fk part came next.
