Hi all

I think sound on 2 is generally better than 1, no problem with level although I thought sound in pub was a bit much especially when Agincourt were playing, noticed that Witchfynde replaced captain happy with their own guy. With regards to Therapy I think the loud snare is part of their sound as its same on their cds (well the 2 I own anyway!).

All the bands I saw were definitely considerably quieter this year, I took my earphones out during the first band I saw (Orange Goblin) and didn't feel the need for them for the rest of the night. Made a nice change from HF3, where even with earphones in I actually had to walk away from Attica because the volume was so ridiculous.

In regards to the sound... for a few bands I thought drums were a bit loud and guitars a bit quiet. Then I got drunk and I didn't give a toss. There's a lesson somewhere in there ;)

biggest reoccurring problem was the VOLUME.
It seems everyone gets sucked into the "turn everything louder than everything else" syndrome. You do not get quality & clarity be ramping it up to 11.

I completely agree and I was saying just that during the whole event. It seems even when the bands played a quiet part of the song...the volume was wacked up!! It was so loud everything just mushed together.
Generally the sound started out ok but as the sound man got carried away it got louder and louder and consequently deteriorated!

It was particularly apparent on stage one.

Firefest gets it right regarding the sound! Not too loud and in general you can hear all instruments! And that is multi band event!

I thought that the sound for stage 2 was mixed in terms of quality. Sometimes it was good but more often the levels were awful. In particular I thought that the lead vocals were too quiet while the backing vocals too dominant for quite a few of the bands.

Stage 1 on Friday night was overwhelmingly loud. Even with musicians earplugs and sitting on the seats I found it too loud. Saturday I thought was a bit better volume-wise but still didn't need to be quite that loud. However, I did find the mix much better on stage 1 than stage 2.

Didn't spend any time in the Vic cos it was too stuffy. Why oh why oh why was the heating on in there??

The only complaint I had with the sound at stage 2, was when I was at the barrier the vocals were VERY quiet compared to the rest of the mix.

hmmm, stage 2 suffered problems all friday, it was most apparent when my boys, Exit State took to the stage, the sound broke down completely, Roy had to give his guitar to the guitarist as he had lost all sound, as this was there first time at HRH, they were very pissed off, and expected better
