The series trots out the usual theory that Grunge did away with Glam, but how many Grunge bands are still touring today?.......Seems to me Glam had the last laugh ! :)

To be honest I think every genre has a shelf life, and when it becomes popular and over-saturated with below par bands, it gets bloated and fizzles out. It all goes in cycles anyway :D

Have they survived because most of the above are really contemporary ( for the time) hard rock bands though?
Pearl jam particularly....could have fitted into the early 70s style of things no problem. :)

Grunge is just a label anyway for all the bands that came out of a small area at the same time. Everything has to be labelled by the media. The big 4 grunge bands - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden & Alice In Chains don't really sound anything like each other.

I remember reading an interview in some mag and Chris Cornell was taking about music genres and saying Soundgarden aren't no way a metal band as if it was embarressing to be tagged as one. That always got me (and fucked me off) back in the early/mid 90's how many bands tried to distance themselves from metal as it wasn't 'hip' at the time. So many bands back then found it convenient to forget their influences and their core fanbase.

Anyhoo can anyone lend me a satellite dish for this Evolution series as we binned Sky a couple of years ago when there was feck all worth watching   :D

It's a well known fact that a lot of the Grunge band members were metal fans. The Melvins are huge KISS fans for a start & Nirvana did a KISS cover. The guitarist out of Pearl Jam admitted nicking the solo from She for Alive too..

Nothing wrong with that*, just don't go saying it was all shit to look cool.

*Except the Nivana cover, it's fkn awful. :D
